About Cicely

Women’s Trauma Therapy Approach

Cicely has always felt called to help others recognize their inherent worth and importance in the world. As a lifelong learner of psychology and sociology, she brings depth, curiosity, and grounded insight into every therapeutic relationship. Clients often describe her as warm, validating, insightful, and refreshingly grounded. If you appreciate humor, you may find her approach brings a sense of lightness while moving through difficult topics.

Whether you arrive with clear goals or feel unsure about your direction, Cicely helps you sort through the confusion that can feel heavy or overwhelming. She takes the time to understand what motivates you, highlights strengths that may have gone unnoticed, and supports you in learning tools that create meaningful and sustainable change.

Although her intelligence is undeniable, clients feel empowered—not intimidated—by her wisdom. Many people leave their first session feeling grateful to have found a therapist who is both deeply knowledgeable and profoundly human.

Background & Professional Training

Formal Education

Cicely earned her B.A. with double majors in History and Political Science from Cal Poly – Humboldt in California. She later completed her M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Psychology from Goddard College in Vermont. During her academic training, she also studied biopsychology and neuropsychology, recognizing the essential connection between physical health, nervous system regulation, and emotional recovery.

Clinical Experience

Cicely is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) with broad experience across multiple settings. On the East Coast, she supported refugees adjusting to a new country and rebuilding their lives amid significant stress and transition. Before joining Dr. Brecke Counseling Group four years ago, she worked north of the Twin Cities, serving individuals in rural Minnesota with limited access to mental health care.

Integrative Healing Through Creativity

In her clinical work, Cicely often incorporates artistic expression as part of the healing process. She believes creativity strengthens emotional insight, supports regulation, and deepens self-connection. Many clients report feeling heard, grounded, and hopeful by the end of their first session.

Cicely empowers clients to lead the direction of their treatment based on their goals. She is collaborative and client-centered, while confidently offering guidance when helpful.

Personal Life

Outside her clinical work, Cicely enjoys creating art, bead-working, and exploring the worlds of Star Trek. Her creative talents were recently recognized at Art-A-Whirl (Spring 2025)—the nation’s largest open-studio tour, held in Northeast Minneapolis.

She also loves spending time with her cats, dogs, and family. Creativity, compassion, and connection shape both her personal life and her work as a therapist.
